IDP's Further Practice Reading
& Writing course aims to improve participants' ability to read
and write academic English under time pressure, particularly with a
view to improving performance in the IELTS test.
Key reading strategies, together with tips and techniques, are
given to cover the basic questions types used in the IELTS
test.
The writing element of the course focuses on the two writing
parts (Task 1 and Task 2) of the academic module of the IELTS test.
There is a homework element to the course for both skills.
-
Reading
Reading tasks are similar to those used in the Academic Module of
the IELTS test. Initial reading tasks are relatively
straightforward so that participants can practise a range of
reading strategies.
Time limits will be strictly followed as the course aims to
progressively develop reading speeds and comprehension and to
discourage students from reading slowly to get correct
answers.
-
Writing
The course concentrates on the two tasks assessed in the
Academic Module of IELTS. Course activities help students to
develop the skills assessed in the writing test.
Participants will look at paragraph and essay structure, essay
planning, and unity with supporting ideas. They will also practise
planning and writing essays in and out of class. Describing graphs,
pie charts and tables is also covered in the second half of the
course.
