IDP’s Essentials Writing
and Grammar course offers participants a solid foundation in
writing skills and addresses a number of key issues. The course
acts as a bridge to some of IDP’s more demanding academic courses
such as Skills Building and Further Practice courses.
Taking a workshop approach, the course addresses the essential
sentence and paragraph-level writing skills that form the building
blocks of successful essay writing. In addition, the course covers
a number of grammar problems that Thai English learners
encounter.
On completion of the course, participants will be able to
produce well-organized, grammatically accurate writing to perform a
variety of functions that are required both in academic writing and
in the IELTS test.
Such functions include describing, narrating, evaluating,
comparing, and persuading. In addition, participants will be able
to express opinions and support them with reasons, evidence and
examples. As the course focuses on some of the more mechanical
aspects of writing, participants also develop greater ability to
deal with issues such as punctuation, spelling and editing.
